Community Archaeology

At Banks Newton, we focus primarily on Community Archaeology.

Community Archaeology
Here at BNH, one of the things we are happy to become involved with, is consulting on community projects and working collaboratively with community groups and organisations, who wish to look at the archaeology and heritage of their local area area whilst still maintaining rigorous standards of archaeological oversight.

We provide high quality advice, assistance and training to community organisations looking to complete archaeological and heritage based projects and can offer a wide variety of assistance to such groups eg:

    • Full archaeological advice and project oversight with flexible arrangements to suit the group.
    • Training to assist groups in getting started.
    • Help and advice on where and how to access other professional services linked to archaeological projects.
    • Assistance with funding – we have a lot of experience in completing funding applications and bid writing, whether for the HLF or other public bodies. In the period covering 2015-16 we have been directly involved in successfully binding for £88,000 of grant funding.

Archaeological Training – we can offer opportunities for volunteers, students and general interest applicants to come to our digs and recieve high quality archaeological training in a cross section of fieldwork, survey and post excavation work.

We are happy to visit schools and colleges and can deliver a wide range of archaeological, heritage and history related activities ranging from finds handling sessions to full archaeological investigations.
